Artist David White operates  nature tours on the Daintree River.  In his spare time he creates large sculptures using recycled rubbish.

Mission Beach Cassowaries Inc obtained a RADF grant  to commission David to create 'Eric' the fish for the Mission Beach Community Cassowary Festival.  The sculpture  has been gifted to the CCRC to be used at events around the Cassowary Coast to raise awareness of waste.

“Through appreciation comes protection. To protect our wildlife we have to think about our waste and where it goes. Rubbish art gets people’s attention and makes them think.”

The  empty chamber at the back can be constantly filled and emptied so we can have a visual reminder of the amount of waste we create. For example the waste from one family a week, or a class room family for a day etc. As waste is usually out of mind, out of sight. And we don’t usually see our waste".  David White.
